Awards

The John H. Martinson Honors Program offers several different awards to both students and campus stakeholders to recognize excellence in achievement, leadership, mentorship, and partnership. The applications are available from January - March and award winners are celebrated at the Graduation Brunch and Awards Ceremony held in early May.

Outstanding Student Award

The John H. Martinson Honors Program (JMHP) Outstanding Student Award is given every year to celebrate one graduating student who best exemplifies the spirit of the JMHP during their time at Georgia Tech.

Emerging Leader Award

This award honors a new member of the John H. Martinson Honors Program community (first-year or transfer student) who has quickly become a standout leader. Their initiative, energy, and commitment to fostering a vibrant JMHP culture and community set a powerful example for their peers. 

Eligibility: Any JMHP student in their first year is eligible to apply.  

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations of peers are accepted.

Innovation in Honors Award

This award spotlights a student or Honors Leadership Council committee that has launched a creative and impactful initiative that enhances the John H. Martinson Honors Program experience. It celebrates bold thinking and inventive programming. Whether through a new event, resource, or initiative, the recipient(s) demonstrated the power of innovation in advancing the mission of the JMHP. 

Eligibility: Any JMHP student or HLC committee is eligible to apply.  

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations of peers are accepted.

Alumni of the Year Award

To honor a distinguished John H. Martinson Honors Program alum who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to the program through volunteerism, mentorship, and advocacy. This award celebrates an alum whose ongoing contributions have significantly enriched the JMHP community. 

Eligibility: Any alum who has participated in activities to support the JMHP since their graduation from Georgia Tech.

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations from others are accepted.

Mentor of the Year Award

This award recognizes an upper-class student who has gone above and beyond in mentoring peers and building community. Their guidance, support, and leadership have made a lasting impact on others. As a role model and advocate, they embody the values of mentorship and peer development. 

Eligibility: Any JMHP student in their second year or beyond is eligible to apply.  

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations of peers are accepted.

Leaders in Progress and Service Award

This award highlights a student who not only excels academically but also embrace their responsibility as changemakers and embody the spirit of Georgia Tech’s motto Progress and Service. They work to both build and engage in transformative experiences to help advance knowledge, foster collaboration, and create meaningful change in their communities and beyond. 

Eligibility: Any JMHP student in their second year or beyond is eligible to apply.  

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations of peers are accepted.

Catalyst for Change Award

This award recognizes a staff member, faculty member, program, or office that has helped drive forward the John H. Martinson Honors Program mission through strategic partnership and collaborative transformation. This award celebrates those who bridge departments to create unified progress. 

Eligibility: Any individual, program, or office that has helped to generate change and progress for the JMHP.

Nominations: Both self nominations and nominations from others are accepted.
